Council is looking to improve safety on Back Porepunkah Road, which serves as the key secondary connector road between Bright and Porepunkah.
We have prepared the draft Back Porepunkah Road Safety Strategy which identifies key road safety issues impacting motorists, pedestrians and cyclists, and suggests recommendations to improve safety on this road. This strategy has been funded as part of the TAC Local Government Grant Program.
Council is seeking community feedback on:
- Any safety concerns on Back Porepunkah Road;
- Any solutions to improve safety on Back Porepunkah Road; and,
- Feedback on the draft recommendations on Back Porepunkah Road.
Key recommendations from the Back Porepunkah Road safety strategy include:
- Provide sealed shoulders along the full length of the road;
- Install safety barriers at certain locations along the road;
- Provide light poles and adequate lighting at all intersections, curves, and crossing points over the Murray to Mountains Trail;
- Reduce the speed limit from 80km/h to 60km/h along sections of Back Porepunkah Road; and,
- Provide raised safety platforms at crossing points on the Murray to Mountains Trail.
