Updated Information from Vic Pol and announcement of Business Support Packages

16 September 2025

Updated advice from VicPol:

As most of you will already be aware, the recent announcement by Victoria Police regarding its advice to avoid travelling to Porepunkah has now been updated. This marks an important step forward for our community and local economy; however, this remains an ongoing incident with Mount Buffalo National Park remaining closed for the time being. Residents and visitors are encouraged to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious behaviour. You can stay informed via the Vic Emergency and the VicRoads’ apps.

We understand that many businesses continue to face significant challenges. The impact of recent events—particularly on tourism, hospitality and retail—has been deeply felt and recovery will take time.

It is considered appropriate to welcome visitors back. If you’ve received cancellations, we recommend reaching out to those customers to let them know Alpine is open and ready to host them once again. School holidays are the ideal time to visit and support the region. Visitors can stay, spend, and enjoy the best of Victoria’s High Country.

Victorian Government Announce Support for Porepunkah:

The Victorian Government has announced a $2.5million package of support for the Porepunkah region, which includes direct grants of up to $5,000 for eligible businesses that have experienced significant disruption and revenue losses. Here is a link to this announcement: Supporting The Porepunkah Community and Alpine Region | Premier. As a first step, please take the time to register your details to get more information on grants and other related supports, including being notified of when applications open.

We will continue to keep you updated and advise you when additional support becomes available. Local support and advice can be sourced here:
