The Dredge Hole precinct project, funded by the Federal Government and managed by Alpine Shire Council, is set to begin construction this summer.

The Alpine Better Places Harrietville Project began in 2020 with the aim of revitalising open spaces across the township.

The Concept Design process began in July 2020. Through the consultation process the Harrietville Community identified and prioritised the Harrietville Walks Trail Head near Tronoh Dredge Hole as one of three projects.

This area was selected by the community during early phases of community engagement to provide an enticing and logical entry to the walking and recreational opportunities around Harrietville.

This car park that sits at the corner of Feathertop Track is at the point at which the Bungalow and Bon Accord walking tracks can come together and be serviced by a single location.

This area will develop into a shared trail head for these walks as well as for tourists looking to access the shorter loops around the Tronoh Dredge Hole and East Ovens Tracks.

The area will supplement other infrastructure around the precinct to ensure users have the facilities required when embarking or returning from short or long walks.

This project will improve the connections to the town centre, and seek to improve the amenity and functionality by addressing and formalising some of the parking issues along the route.

Careful consideration has been given to develop the area without overloading or changing the character of the offering - including the potential to overload the already busy existing attractions including the existing Tronoh Dredge Hole day use area.

Upcoming works

Community feedback has led to some modifications in the project's scope.

Council officers are working with a Project Reference Group with representatives from the Tronoh Dredge Hole Committee, the Harrietville Community Forum and the Harrietville Historical Society.

The group is providing useful guidance and advice for Council Officers, and we would like to take this opportunity to thank them for their time and input.

Please note - the toilet shown is indicative only. The size, shape, finishes and colours etc. are still to be decided.
