Tourism and events have been identified as a key priority in our current Council Plan 2025-29.

Community feedback highlighted both the value of tourism and the importance of ensuring it remains sustainable, well‑managed, and aligned with local values.

One outcome of the Council Plan is the development of a new Tourism and Events Strategy, which will include a refresh of the existing Alpine Shire Events Strategy 2021.

This Strategy will help us build a long‑term approach to sustainable tourism, ensuring that growth is managed in a way that respects community expectations, environmental values, and our unique local identity.

Our Tourism and Events development has three key steps:

  • Understand current status of the tourism industry
  • Facilitate the community to articulate their vision for the future of the tourism industry
  • Develop tactics and actions to move from current state to future vision

Stage one is already underway. We are preparing a detailed report on the current state of tourism, and collecting data on community and industry attitudes.

We are now inviting the community to participate in the second stage - vision‑setting for the future of tourism and events, with several ways to have your say:

  • Complete the online survey below
  • Pick up a printed survey available at our Alpine Libraries and our Customer Service Centre at our office in Bright
  • Register for our workshops. A series of facilitated community workshops will be held across the Shire in April and May. These sessions will help shape the long‑term vision for tourism and be open to residents, business owners and tourism operators. You can express your interest in attending online via the form on this page, or by using the hard‑copy forms available at the locations above.

Harrietville and Dinner Plain will each host one workshop for everyone.
