Even with strong action to reduce our emissions, the impacts of climate change will continue to increase over the coming decades due to past emissions of greenhouse gasses. Adapting to current and projected climate change is essential to build resilience against climate impacts.

The irreversible impacts to our climate can be addressed through adaptation and resilience initiatives within households and across the community.

Fortunately, most energy-use reduction, renewable power, sustainable gardening and water wise initiatives mentioned on our Sustainable Households page also enhance household climate resilience.

For example, improved insulation and appliance efficiency contribute to a building being more comfortable in a warming climate. Solar PV generation can enhance energy security by providing power during power outages and ensuring reliable electricity during emergencies. Similarly, community energy networks and microgrids can ensure local electricity supply when the grid is down.
