Mission Australia Survey Report

Mission Australia invites young people aged 14 to 19 years to participate in the largest annual survey of young people in Australia.

Now in its 24th year, the survey seeks feedback about sociodemographic information; issues of national importance; study and work; housing and financial situation; mental health and wellbeing; sources of support and community connections; climate issues; as well as sources of stress across a range of topics such as body image, cost of living, school, and friends/family. Additional focus areas for 2025 further explore housing and financial matters, school engagement and attendance and hopes for the future.

The survey is now open and will take approximately 20 minutes for young people to complete. It will close on Friday 15 August 2025.

Thanks to the amazing efforts of the young people of the Alpine Shire in 2024!

This year was the first time we reached enough survey responses to receive data specific to our area, here are our key takeaways:

🏋️Biggest personal challenge experienced in the last year: 1. School and Study, 2. Mental Health, 3. Personal Relationships

🌏Most important issues in Aus today: 1. Cost of Living, 2. Climate change and the environment, 3. Mental Health

✋Barriers to achieving study/work goals: 1. Where we live 63% 2. Mental Health, 3. Financial Difficulties

🏫Feelings about their community: 59% are proud, 37% say they have a say on this issues that matter to them and 45% say the community has the things I need to have a positive and thriving future

🔴Reasons for being treated unfairly in the past year: 1. Gender at 38%, 2. Mental Health at 31%, 3. Sexuality at 31%

☀Activities involved in during the past year: 74% participated in sport. 42% participated in volunteer work. 35% participated in student leadership activities. 12% participated in environmental groups/ activities.
