Mount Beauty Pondage path to be renewed
In exciting news for the communities of the Upper Kiewa Valley, the three kilometre walking path around Mount Beauty Pondage is set to be renewed.
8 May 2026
From budgets and infrastructure planning to climate action, access and inclusion and place-based projects, residents have shown strong interest in having their say and contributing thoughtful, constructive feedback.
Recent engagement activity highlights just how valuable this involvement is.
Through a mix of online surveys, written submissions and face-to-face conversations at pop-ups, drop-in sessions and community events, hundreds of people have shared their perspectives on Council priorities. This input directly informs our decision-making and helps ensure our plans reflect the needs, aspirations and values of our diverse communities.
Importantly, there are still plenty of opportunities ahead to get involved. I encourage everyone to stay connected through Engage Alpine, where current and upcoming engagement opportunities are shared.
Whether you’re passionate about the environment, local infrastructure, recreation, or the long-term financial sustainability of our Shire, your voice matters – and the best outcomes are achieved when we work together.
As we head into the last month of autumn, it’s a great reminder to slow down and enjoy every moment in our beautiful Shire. We’ve been treated to glorious weather, crisp fresh air, and some truly stunning autumn colours right across our towns and landscapes.
It’s been fantastic to see so many people out and about, making the most of it all - whether that’s a walk or ride along our trails, or simply soaking it in amongst our parks and gardens. It’s no wonder we’re all so passionate about the place we call home!
Warm regards,
Cr Sarah Nicholas

National Walk Safely to School Day
Now in its 27th year, National Walk Safely to School Day is an annual campaign which encourages all primary school children, their parents and carers, to walk safely and regularly to school.
Our wonderful School Crossing Supervisors will be out as usual ensuring that everyone walking to school is able to cross the road safely, and they're looking forward to seeing even more families swapping their cars for the footpath.
Regular exercise like walking with your child helps them (and you!) beat chronic problems like obesity, heart disease, behavioural and mental health issues and diabetes. It also gives you a great opportunity to teach your child safe ways to behave around roads and traffic.
Remember, Active Kids are Healthy Kids so get planning your own Walk Safely to School Day journey.

Thinking about solar, a battery, or cutting your energy bills with a heat pump or reverse-cycle split system? Alpine Shire Council has joined the Goulburn Murray Solar Savers program to make it easier than ever.
Goulburn Murray Solar Savers is a local government initiative helping households and businesses to install quality and affordable rooftop solar, batteries, heat pumps, and heating and cooling systems. The program is built on a simple idea: council does the vetting so you don't have to.
All providers have been rigorously vetted through a public tender process to ensure quality, reliability, and value. After you register, you will be connected with a trusted installer to arrange a free, no-obligation quote, noting all the government subsidies available.
Available products include solar panels, battery storage, hot water heat pumps, reverse-cycle split systems, EV chargers, induction cooktops, insulation, draught proofing, and home energy assessments.

Our tree-rific team of five arborists are responsible for the management and maintenance of every tree on Council-owned land, which is so many trees that even the Lorax would be over-elm-ed!
This is why we're recruiting for someone who cares a whole awful lot - a tree-mendous and motivated Arboriculture Crew Member to join our Arboriculture Team and care for our trees and open spaces.
You'll be working alongside our experienced arboriculture team to maintain the safety, health, and appearance of our trees, parks, and streetscapes for the benefit of our communities now and into the future.
Go on! Go out on a limb and learn more about this unbe-leaf-able position by clicking the button below this text.

If you’re trying to stay on top of prices, the Servo Saver feature in the Service Victoria app might be useful. It shows current petrol and diesel prices at servos across Victoria, including around the Alpine Shire.
One handy option is keeping on top of tomorrow’s price cap - it lets you see how much prices can increase the next day, so you can decide whether it’s worth filling up sooner.
It’s free, easy to use, and lets you filter by fuel type and check opening hours.
Tenders for the provision of swimming pools management services in Indigo, Alpine and Towong Shires are now open, and will close at 4pm on Monday, 18 May 2026.

Registering pets is crucial for community safety and responsible ownership; it helps reunite lost pets with their owners, reduces fines, and supports services like animal welfare and ranger operations.
Under the Domestic Animal Act 1994, all domestic dogs and cats must be registered in their local shire. Unregistered animals cannot be returned by Rangers, and non-compliance can result in fines of over $400.
For further information on pet registrations, or to register your pet for the first time, please click the button below.
